[MHN Jung Halim reporter] Hirokazu Kore-eda , one of Japan's representative active directors, is set to cast Song Kang-ho, Kang Dong-won, and Bae Doo-na in his first Korean production 'Broker' (working title).
The movie will be about a 'baby box', a place for women to anonymously leave children they cannot take care of, and the people connected by the said box.
This will be the first production that sees Song Kang-ho and Kang Dong-won together since 'Secret Reunion', and the first between Bae Doo-na and Koreeda since 'Air Doll' back in 2009.
Kore-eda stated, "After working with Bae Doo-na back in 2009, I promised, 'Let's work together again, then as a human character', but it took 10 years to fulfill that dream."
He said, "This moment, as I move the three amazing actors around in my head as I write the script, is the one that makes my heart flutter the most. I want to make a movie with thrills, that makes the heart ache, so that I can share this feeling with everyone."
He also comment on the language barrier, saying, "This movie will also, following my last project, be one that I direct separate from my home country and language. Through the production and directing process, I want to explore deeper into what one can communicate and share across language and cultural barriers, and what kind of a role a director has.
Being invited to the Cannes Film Festival five times, Hirokazu Kore-eda won the Jury Prize for 'Like Father, Like Son' (2013) and the Palm d'Or for 'Shoplifters' (2018).
His previous project, 'The Truth' (2019), was done in English and French. Kore-eda has be formulating 'Broker' for 5 years, with production starting next year.
