[MHN] The Korean crime drama "Money" debuted in first place on the weekend box-office chart, data showed Monday.
The film starring Ryu Jun-yeol, Yoo Ji-tae and Jo Woo-jin sold 1.11 million tickets from Friday to Sunday to top the list, according to the data from the Korean Film Council (KOFIC).
Including the number of tickets sold in pre-screenings, the movie about a young stock broker who would do anything to become rich has amassed 1.53 million views until Sunday.
"Captain Marvel" was bumped down a spot to second place. The Marvel superhero film attracted an additional 386,237 moviegoers last weekend for a total of 5.23 million during its third weekend at the box office.
On Saturday, it became the most-viewed March film ever in South Korea, beating the 2017 live-action "Beauty and the Beast" remake starring Emma Watson.
Two other new Korean releases -- "Jo Pil-ho: The Dawning Rage" and "Idol" -- came in third and fourth place, garnering 124,174 and 80,650 views, respectively.
The American horror-thriller "Escape Room" fell three spots to fifth, selling 63,900 tickets in its second weekend.
